As data rates continue to climb the role of testing optical fibers and transmission equipment is changing rapidly. Learn about what “coherent” transmission is and its impact on characterizing your OSP. For those implementing dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) or high speed 100 Gb/s (or higher) transmission systems learn about how Optical Signal to Noise Ratio (OSNR) is becoming a key test and requires the use of an optical spectrum analyzer (OSA).

These technologies are new to most organizations and this session will provide an introduction to the technologies along with demonstrations showing the uniqueness these technologies will require for network engineers and OSP staff. These technologies are the next evolution of fiber optic testing required by the massive growth in bandwidth demands.

Attendees will learn about new Coherent transmission systems and their impact to OSP testing and the types of test equipment required for 100 Gb/s and higher transmission rates. Understanding the impacts of these technical changes will allow your staff to migrate to higher speeds with the least impact.
