Due to a high number of deployments, shortage of staff and pressure to reduce OpEx and CapEx, operators are more and more relying on contractors to take on jobs. With the high density of fiber deployments to come, heavy outsourcing could diminish operators’ visibility over their data and fiber infrastructure. Having full infrastructure knowledge will be necessary for operators to maintain control over the quality of service (QoS) delivered to subscribers, as well as to accurately budget and plan for network evolutions required on the road to 5G. Since achieving a decent ROI is the number one objective, both purchase costs and overall cost of ownership must be considered when it comes to instrument investments. In addition, the challenge of dealing with a shortage of skilled technicians requires the hiring and extensive training of employees who are completely new to fiber testing. This session will provide attendees with a new simplified approach to overcoming each of these challenges and ensuring fiber networks are fully reliable for the next evolution.
